Greenlink to Offer Fare Free Day

Greenlink is partnering with iMAGINE Upstate and Ten at the Top to offer Fare Free Day this Saturday, April 6. Ten at the Top is the festival’s transportation partner, and its sponsorship of Fare Free Day will allow Greenlink to provide free service for passengers on all fixed route buses on April 6. According to Nicole McAden, Greenlink’s marketing and public affairs manager, the partnership between iMAGINE Upstate and Ten at the Top is a great example of how public transportation can offer mobility solutions for the community. “Not every trip requires a personal vehicle, especially when you’re driving downtown only to park it for the entire day,” said McAden. “By partnering with large attractions like downtown festivals and offering Fare Free Days, we’re able to raise awareness about alternative transportation options and demonstrate how public transportation can help address issues such as traffic congestion and limited parking.”

According to iMAGINE Upstate interim director Kelsye Acker, the 2018 festival attracted more than 12,000 attendees. It was the third year that the Fare Free Day was sponsored and according to McAden, Greenlink saw a 29% increase in ridership on the day of the festival compared to the Saturday before. Acker believes that this bump in ridership is helping increase festival attendance and diversify its audience. “We are continuing to make strides to reach more children and families by making the festival accessible for families who may not otherwise be able to commute to downtown Greenville,” said Acker. “Through this wonderful partnership, our hope is that more families will be able to attend the event and learn about the educational opportunities highlighted throughout the festival.”

Greenlink passengers and festival attendees can use the Google Transit application at to plan their free trips on April 6. Customers are also encouraged to download the FindGreenlink app in the Android or iOS app store to get real-time arrival information of the buses.
